Question of the week
"I have a good doer, why would I feed a balancer instead of a vitamin and mineral supplement?"
Vitamin and mineral supplements should contain the correct levels of nutrients to support a forage based diet, BUT they could still fall short of feed balancer provision in various areas.
Feed Balancers provide a more complete balance of protein, vitamins, and minerals in a pelleted form, which is often far more palatable for your horse. They can also be fed by the hand or alone, without the need of additional feed as a "carrier" for a powder.
Blue Chip Super Concentrated feed balancers are especially helpful for horses individual needs, those who are on a restricted or specific diet or those living out. The 15kg bagged balancers are better suited to those needing more fibre and protein for growth, pregnancy or harder work.
Balancers also contain additional digestive support, often in the form of probiotics. The probiotics that Blue Chip use (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae), are proven to increase forage digestibility and nutrient extraction by up to 100%.
These are protected from the horse's stomach acid in a fibre, protein and fat base which also helps with nutrient absorption in the hind gut.
In short, a feed balancer offers a broader nutritional profile, which can be important for the overall health and performance of the horse.
