My horse is now 14 years old, can you share your top 5 tips for prolonged health?

Is your horse 14 or over? If so it's a good time to reassess their diet.

There are some key changes to watch out for.

  • Dental changes - Feeding a mashed feed  for those with uneven wear or cracked and lost teeth could make a big difference to mealtime, making it easier for them to eat.
  • Joints and mobility - Arthritis is much more common in older horses. Ingredients like glucosamine and rosehip can provide crucial support.
  • Decreasing muscle - Aging can lead to reduced muscle mass. Ensure they're getting enough protein to stay strong.
  • Hormonal changes - Cushing's/PPID (Pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction), can be helped by adding an ingredient like Chase tree berry to their diet to support hormonal balance.
  • Slower metabolism - as metabolism declines, increasing nutrient levels is really vital for your older horse.

Blue Chip have two feed balancers to eliminate any guesswork and to meet your horse's needs.
