Behind the feed - Magnesium (Calming)

Magnesium is naturally present in your pony or horse, but not always easily found in their natural diet from grazing. This is why we include it in all of our feed balancers, and with further supporting supplements (Chamomile and L-tryptophan) in our Calming Balancer. It is an essential micromineral for the health and well-being of all ponies and horses.

Ensuring adequate levels of magnesium in the diet is important because it can:

  • Promote calm behaviour, helping your horse to be less stressed by novel environments or situations
  • Improve tolerance to stress
  • Improve athletic ability by enhancing oxygen delivery to muscles
  • Support the reduction of cramping post exercise by helping with muscle relaxation and protein synthesis, key to the repair of muscles and soft tissue
  • Help cells respond more effectively to insulin which aids in sugar tolerance
  • Support nerve and muscle function, including brain function
  • Help to maintain hoof quality
  • Support healthy metabolism and the growth phase of young horses
  • Help to relieve the symptoms of Laminitis

Horses and ponies who aren't receiving enough magnesium can become irritable and difficult to ride.

Magnesium is gentle on the digestive system, and palatable and safe for long-term use.

Blue Chip Calming Balancer is ideal for those who may need daily calming supplementation, ensuring your pony or horse has both a correctly balanced diet and the supplementation they need to help with stress or anxiety. It contains magnesium, chamomile and l-tryptophan and more. As a super concentrated feed balancer, Calming is extremely low in starch and sugar and molasses FREE!

TOO MUCH MAGNESIUM? - It is difficult to give a horse too much magnesium as they can excrete excess levels in their urine. Signs of over-supplementation can include digestive upset.
