Royal Veterinary College Riding Team

So we’ve all started competing and I thought you’d like an update.

.

So far, both the A and B team have hosted their competitions. Unfortunately the B team’s was way back at the end of last year so we didn’t have the kit for then, but everyone was commenting on the A team at how smart everything looked!

.

The competitions work by having 4 horses and 1 member from each team rides a horse, so your score is worked out on how far off being the best you are. We had some horses at our home competition that were really full of character!!! One of our dressage horses, Byron, had his first competition and he thought it was so exciting and wouldn’t concentrate for a second!!! And in the jumping we had some very cheeky horses with pony mentalities that love running out and stopping… Nonetheless, all of the A team managed to get clear rounds on the horses they rode!

.

I want to make a special mention to one member of the A team though… Daniella… She was in agony all day yesterday at our competition but rode through it and came 3rd individually which is fantastic. But last night she went into hospital where she still is currently waiting for an operation to have her appendix out. She has such team spirit and is a really vital member of our team!

.

So far these are the results from each of the competitions…some were last year, but the rest have been going on over the last couple of weeks. Placings are 1st-4th as teams, and 1st-8th (out of 16) individually.

.

RESULTS:

.

.

4) Oxford Brookes’ C team competition still to go.

.

C team: (Trophy league… novice dressage, 85cm SJ at league level)

1) Oxford Brookes’ B team Comp at Checkenden – 3rd as a team (03/02/11) Sophie Hopkins – 2nd individual Vicky Simons – 4th individual

.

2) Oxford’s B team, Writtle and home competition still to go.

.

We’re now aiming to win all the rest of the competitions (could happen!) because that’s really the only way some of the teams can get to regional’s (it’s too soon to say about C team though as they’ve only had one comp), however everyone who has been placed individually stands an incredibly good chance of qualifying… The top team, and the top 2 riders that aren’t on the top team, from each league qualify for regional’s each year.

.

I hope you like the pictures!!! It made us look really smart for our competition. Other than competitions and training, we’ve been doing a lot more social things too. This weekend coming up we’re going on a social weekend/team building in Europe somewhere… we don’t find out until we get to the airport!!! I’ll let you know what happens!!! Also we’ve been doing a massive amount of fundraising such as bake sales and competitions to try to up our budget and fund some more training and the expenditure on the competitions such as food and the judge.

.

Thank you once again for everything.
