It’s that time of year again and the Royal Ascot is upon us.
The first day, Tuesday, is always about the Group 1 races, where the best of the world compete in the Queen Anne Stakes, the King’s Stand Stakes and of course the St James’s Palace Stakes where all eyes are on 2,000 Guineas winner, Frankel.
Wednesday sees the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes, with its £400,000 prize money and both the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes and the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes.
Thursday is Ladies’ Day and the buzz is about Fame and Glory, who is tipped to win the Gold Cup after last year’s winner Rite of Passage suffered a setback and could not make the race this year.
The key race on Friday is the Coronation Stakes with its focus on the top three – year – old fillies in Europe. Also on the cards is the King Edward VII Stakes also known as the ‘Ascot Derby’ in which World Domination is being spoken about favourably.
Finally on Saturday, wrap up with a dramatic flourish as one of the world’s most important and international races, the Golden Jubilee Stakes takes place.
Royal Ascot is not just about the races, but also the fashion of course, and judging from the pictures below, Royal Ascot 2011 will not be short of innovative and fashionable fascinators.
As for the weather, it’s a mixed bag as you can see below but it should make for no less a thrilling five days at the Royal Ascot.
