Rowan Van Houben update

unnamed (5)December was a fairly quiet month for competitions; we went to one at Duchy College on the 21st Our Christmas music arrangement was enough to qualify King’s Silver (Ronald) for the Elementary Restricted Music Regional Championship in February. I have a challenging floor-plan all set – I just need to get the music to fit now. We’re also qualified for the Blue Chip Novice Restricted Regional Championship. Our music class is on the Tuesday with the ‘real thing’ on Wednesday. Hopefully we will have fun in the music and get all the spooks out of the way ready for our Novice Regional Test.

The big excitement for January was going to the BEF Breeder’s Awards Dinner and receiving my second prize for King’s Silver in the ROR Elite Dressage Horse Competition. We were in good company as other winners in the ROR category included an Olympic rider, a winning Badminton rider and a horse owned by the Queen. Hurricane Herbie is having a delayed start to his season after mysteriously cutting his lip in the stable. January is always a testing month but even more so this year with the loss of my old horse Rainman. I’d owned him for nearly sixteen years, and as he arrived when I was 15 we have been through pretty much everything that life can throw at you together. I’m happy to say that Ronald has come on leaps and bounds in his schooling over the past two weeks, and the loss of Otto has made me more determined to go and give our all at the Regionals. Fingers crossed we don’t have any mishaps before then.
