Rachael Claridge Update – Tresham Endurance GB Ride

After a disappointing ride a couple of weeks ago, Rachael and Charlie have had a fantastic weekend – below is an update from her:

“Dear all. What amazing weather we had today at the Tresham Endurance GB ride, which was only 3 miles down the road from my home. I was worried about competing on home turf after our last outing went wrong and the past 2 weeks I’ve not ridden Charlie due to him being sore after the cob collided with us, Bowen treatment, a new farrier fitting wider shoes and then I had an ear infection – so because of all of these things I woke up at 3.30am and couldn’t sleep! I got up instead of worrying about what could go wrong and instead made my crew’s cheese & ham sandwiches before getting a bit more shut eye!

Adam is currently away in Germany with his Scout group so I didn’t have a crew, but my sister who was down from Nottingham and her fiancé (Sean), along with Leah the 15 year old who’s been helping me with the horses, stepped into the breach. Amanda took charge of the horse, Sean was the driver/water carrier and Leah took some amazing photos, a few attached!

My friend Heather Caddick and I rode the route together. We’ve ridden most of the 32km route over the past 3 months in our training, but not the final part around Ozleworth Estate. All I can say is, WOW the countryside was amazing, ground so fast and the hills challenging, but the horses loved it. So much so that Charlie started on a pulse of 38bpm and finished on a pulse of 38bpm! Our riding time around 32km was 2.43hrs and our average speed just under 12.5kmph. Charlie and I got a grade one off the back of our amazing efforts, and his fitness, and I’m over the moon!

So onward and upward to the next one at the end of April. Heather, Leah and I will be taking Charlie and my other horse, Meliodas, on the Kings Leaze Riding Club Easter Egg Hunt on Good Friday – so that will be a slight change in their routine but it will be great fun, then a local show on Easter Sunday where I’m hoping to take my stallion Silver Zenif in the run up to the Royal Bath & West show.

Anyway, a success story for us this week which is a great thing compared to a fortnight ago”
