Well the forecast for this weekend’s FEI 120km keeps changing, all I know is that Maarhabi’s vet time is 6am and start time is 7am Saturday. We will travel up to Nottingham on Good Friday and set up our crew area, stable Charlie and find the crew spots for Adam & Jane to crew me at. I haven’t competed at Haywood Oaks for a couple of years so it will be nice to return and hopefully complete the 75mile course Mel and I completed 100 miles over in 2007. If this ride goes well we will enter 160km at Cirencester Park in June (where Silver Mistrahl and I won 160km in 2004) and then we have the College Ride and Barbury Castle in our back pocket if we need them to complete our Elite Squad re-qualifiications! As you know horses are horses and I have also renewed Mel’s FEI licence just in case something happens and also if there is another FEI 1* he can start to re-qualify again. Mel will be competing over 3 days at the Golden Horse Shoe in the new 3 day 120km class, we are the only entry at present but I expect this will change once Haywood Oaks is over.
Zenif is ready for his second 32km ride at the Forest of Dean on 27th April. I am aiming him at 10 rides this year in his first novice season (this is the maximum number we can enter) so we have a chance at the novice trophy.
We also hope to put Shahlua my parents brood mare (dam of Shahkeira our BEF Elite filly) to Zenif this year which is very exciting, fingers crossed for us!
My Coaching is going very well and I am fitting it in around a full time office job, riding, competing and husband! Here is a clip from the gallop training I offered last week at Nick Gauntlett’s eventing yard http://duckhole.smugmug.com/EGBEquestrian/April-2014-Gallop-Training/
I am coaching 12 riders in Oxford next weekend and the Chiltern Distance Riders which will be fun, then Devon over the May bank holiday. I have also started to offer overnight camping for horses/riders at our farm and escorted training rides to enjoy the beautiful Cotswold countryside and Beaufort Hunt stomping ground!
Anyway, best dash as I’m working from home today and also packing for the weekend!
I will keep you posted on how we get on
