I took Prince Meliodas (Mel) to do 40km at Berkshire Downs EGB ride near Didcot Oxfordshire today (Sunday). It was an amazing ride on the ridgeway but very windy, thankfully no rain and definitely worth the 5am alarm clock…my husband disagrees! My other crew Jane Cooke was a good sport meeting us at the yard just after 6am!
Thankfully Mel loaded no issues this time after I found some racing blinkers in the tack room, and took out the central trailer partition so he had no excuse not to go in or come home – unlike Golden Horse Shoe last month! We had a great ride and completed in approximately 15.5kmph speed-wise. This Thursday, Adam and I are off to Cornwall with my other horse Maarhabi to help my parents prepare for their Boconnoc Ride next weekend. Then I will ride Charlie in the 80km race ride; unfortunately not the FEI class because Dad is on the ground jury as part of his qualification/training on the international side of endurance, so we agreed I would go to Barbury in August to do FEI so it’s not a conflict of interest! Next Sunday I will ride Silver Mistrahl, now 23 years old, and escort Ali Shamahl (our homebred 6 year old gelding) in the 16km class; Roz Davis O’Leary will ride Ali. Thankfully Adam & Leah Tuck will crew both days for me. Rachael Claridge
