Lucy Glitters In Triumph Over Injury

When Sara Jane Oglesby’s mare Lucy Glitters was kicked on the hock by another horse, vets were not hopeful of a recovery as the injury was extensive, almost severing the medial ligament in her hock.

.

Although assured that she would never ride Lucy again, Sara didn’t give up and the treatment started with three months in a cast and box rest that continued for almost six months. She explains, “The vet visited three times a day initially and as her recovery progressed, Lucy had to be forced to walk to ensure she stretched the ligaments and tendons in order to regain a normal range of movement. Despite the pain she was evidently suffering, Lucy never gave up battling and bravely made a full recovery.

.

It was on one of my in-hand rehabilitation walks that she got really on her toes, prancing round as good as now and I believed it might be possible to put a saddle back on. So the following day I dusted down my tack and got her ready. Since that day, Lucy has never looked back and I still ride her every day without fail and we are out enjoying each other’s company once more.

.

“Amazingly, I’m even able to jump her again. I recently entered Lucy in an Equestrian Life Show Championship Qualifying Competition for amateur riders and amateur produced horses where we qualified for the Concours D’Elegance Evening Performance and the Best Ridden Horse class. I have also recently entered Lucy in the Racehorse to Riding Horse Performance Challenge where we compete in Hunter Trials, Show Jumping and Showing to accumulate points to hopefully be crowned Champion Combined Discipline Racehorse!”

.

However Lucy’s recovery wasn’t straightforward in every respect, as she lost “a dramatic amount of weight and muscle”, which was due to the stress of box rest and pain. Sara decided to change her feed and having heard such positive feedback from other horse owners, began to feed her Blue Chip Original.

.

“I can happily say now that I too am a very happy Blue Chip customer, as Lucy began to dramatically gain weight and once again became bright and healthy in her appearance. I attribute her improvement and recent success to Original and would never be without it in my feed bins!  Lucy may not be a HOYS Champion, but she is the best in my eyes and I am truly proud of her. The best only deserves the best and for me, that is Blue Chip.”

.

Lucy Glitters has recently won another award, having been selected as the EquestrianClearance.com Horse Hero of the Year. Blue Chip’s Managing Director Jem Clay was at the presentation to award Lucy and Sara Jane a great selection of Blue Chip prizes.
