In its 18th year of sponsoring the Pony Newcomers Class at the Horse of the Year Show, Blue Chip are very pleased to announce Lottie Tutt as the 2016 champion after riding Derek Rickett’s 6 year old mare, Market Angel to victory after a foot perfect jump off round left her in first position, ahead of a highly competitive field.
The 15-year-old from Buckinghamshire, followed previous winners like current world eventing star Oliver Townend and showjumpers Matthew Sampson and Jessie Drea in winning a class that was first contested at HOYS in 1985.
Riding the homebred mare Market Angel, Lottie went quickest in a nine horse jump-off, clocking 31.15 seconds to claim top spot from runner-up Ffion Roberts, on Kantjes Bozzy, with Allana Clutterbuck and Atomic du Bary finishing third, just one hundredth of a second behind Ffion.
After winning the title, Lottie took the time to tell us what her victory meant to her and how it is particularly special as she broke in and trained Market Angel from being a yearling herself. She says, “It’s an amazing feeling, I wasn’t expecting it. She is only young, but I knew she had the scope to do that. Derek bred Market Angel, and I broke her in and rode her right from the beginning. He gives me some tips, and I have been to his place a couple of times for help and stuff. He’s really helpful.”
Watch the full interview with Lottie below as she talks to Blue Chip founder Clare Blaskey and tells us her plans for the future.
We wish Lottie the best of luck for the winter season ahead and we are sure that she will be one to watch in the future as her talent develops and grows and her partnership with Market Angel becomes even stronger
