We’ve had a mixed season this year and more challenges. Holly and I moved up to Advanced, we’ve had a few teething problems in the XC. It was a real shame at Belton that I jumped the wrong jump as we would have only had the 20 penalties for the first refusal and some time penalties, she went so well I think we would have been placed in the AU25. As you know I had a lesson with Sarah Hunt a few months ago and she gave me some great tips.
The snow has been challenging – as much as I like it it’s a little inconvenient when you have horses! I hope it doesn’t come back too soon as it does limited the riding I can do – oh to have an indoor school!
I went to the South East Eventers Ball a couple of weeks ago where we picked up 2nd in the Leading Mare and 6th in the Leading Owner Rider.
Here’s a horse by horse summary:-
Holly – Cullawn Holly
I plan to have some XC lessons with Holly either with Francis Whittington or Sharon Hunt who are both local to me before the 2011 season starts. The problems we have had have been at skinny combinations, Holly is quite keen and it’s a fine line having the control and the impulsion so I just need a few tips here. I will probably start off 2011 with a few Open Novices then back to Open Intermediate, fingers crossed back to Advanced and a *** later in the year.
Duffy – Cullawn Celtic King
Duffy had some good results at Novice this year with several places. Duffy has now been sold to a lovely home to a lady called Ceri who hopes to do BE90, BE100 and work towards Novice with him. I was very sad to see Duffy go as I produced him since he arrived from Ireland as a 4 year old.
Tango – Old Town Tango
Tango is coming on very nicely. As you know he is the sire of Lady’s foal Tandy and we have had him since he was a yearling. It’s taken a long time for him to grow but I think he has grown into a handsome horse now. I try to take him to my local riding club every Thursday for a show jumping lesson with Maria Green. He really loves his jumping and is very bold. I’m hoping to get him out at BE in 2011. His flatwork is good and he moves nicely I’ll just be doing a bit more schooling XC, the jumps are no problem but he’s not always so keen at the water. Still a winter of riding through puddles I’m sure he’ll be fine!
Corby – Cullawn My Way
Corby has had a great year he is so consistent. Great on the flat, very careful showjumping and bold XC – just what you want from an eventer! He is however unfortunately for sale, no takers yet but he will make someone a wonderful horse. I also think he’d make a lovely Working Hunter, he’s so handsome. If he doesn’t sell I’ll still be eventing him next year, which is good as he is fun! The plan once he is sold is for Dad to invest in a quality 4 year old probably from Ireland.
Bobby – Beechmount Bobby
Bobby is a lovely little pony. He really is classy! He is a great mover and careful SJ. Again Bobby will be for sale, he is not advertised yet. Like Corby if he’s not quick to go, which is crazy as they are both very nice, I’ll carry on and keep schooling ready for some events next year.
Lady – Cullawn Celtic Queen
I’m so excited Lady is now back in work! I’ve been lunging her to see how she is as you know she had her foal earlier this year, they’re doing well being apart whilst Lady is being exercised, the set up at the yard is good though as Tandy can see Mum whilst she works in the school! No pressure for Lady next year, she is great and I’ve achieved a lot with her I’ll be interested to see how she comes back after her 18 months off. I really am looking forward to taking her XC she is the ultimate XC horse.

Next year’s aims – I say it every year but it would be WONDERFUL if I could get an owner and ride for them. There is so much competition out there so it’s very hard. I would work so hard to get the best results though and I have my fingers crossed it will happen one day. I don’t mind what level it is at although I must admit it would be lovely to have one at the higher levels as I’m a bit short on horsepower at those levels at the moment. The problem I have is that I have to sell some along the way just to be able to continue to event. I also hope to do a *** with Holly – I know she can do it. With Lady I’ll just see what happens and I’m looking forward to having some fun with her – hopefully we will be able to have the success together of 2007. Depending on whether Corby and Bobby are sold I will probably have a new addition to the yard to bring on. I really enjoy bringing horses on and seeing their progress. I do school for a few clients and have had great results. Beau, who I school for his owner was great on Sunday – I rode him in my riding club Xmas SJ and he won the Puissance. I was very pleased with him! I’ve got high hopes for Tango too although he’s only young at the moment I think he has got a bright future eventing.
Also an aim is that I keep my blog, facebook and twitter accounts updated a bit more frequently! It’s so hard finding the time between being at the yard, schooling, going to events and working in the pub!
The diary of events on the website has been updated and I aim to do some Eventers Training days at Golden Cross. I’m also hoping to do the JAS (Jumping and Style) series that are being held around the country by BE.I will send some further emails with photos. Sorry again for the delay getting the update to you.
