Lifetime in Racing Achievement

Blue Chip Feeds was delighted to support with a ‘Lifetime In Racing’ event for Maureen McCormack at The Curragh recently.

Lifetime In Racing events are held only for individuals who have worked behind the scenes in racing for over 40 years, giving them a unique and much-treasured experience of racing from ‘the other side’. As one of the first women in Ireland to be accepted into racing as an equal in what was a traditionally male-dominated industry, this was a truly memorable occasion.

As part of her day, Maureen and her family enjoyed lunch and the afternoon’s racing at The Curragh from a private box. With a race named after her, Maureen was also the able judge of the Best Turned Out award and presented prizes sponsored by Blue Chip to the connections of the winning horse, the trainer and to the stable staff.

This was one of an on-going series of annual events arranged by Blue Chip, The Curragh and the Stable Staff Association for someone whose career in racing spanned more than 40 years. As a fitting memento of her achievement, Maureen was obviously delighted to receive a commemorative silver salver from Blue Chip, presented by Philip Masterson, whose company TRI is the Irish Distributor for Blue Chip.

Maureen McCormack

Maureen McCormack is a true Lilywhite, having been born and bred in Clane, Co. Kildare. She has two sons, Eddie and Calvin, two daughters Jane and Tara and she also has two grandchildren. Eddie played for the Kildare team and Calvin is a successful jockey in America.

At the tender age of 15 she worked for the late Peter McCreery Snr with whom she spent 30 years. During this time Maureen led up numerous horses including ‘Hilly Way’ who won two Champion Chases and was beaten by a short head in a third. Maureen’s favourite horse was ‘Daring Run’ who ran in three Champion Hurdles and he was also the last horse to win the Irish Sweeps Hurdle in 1986.

Maureen retired approximately two years ago and happily spends her time between Kildare and Wexford.
