Laddie ended up having quite a quiet August! We missed getting into the Hickstead CDI by one place which was really gutting to be so close yet so far! Then it was discovered that the membrane in our arena had given up and was starting to poke through the surface, so that was out of action for just under a month. This seemed an ideal time to give Laddie a bit of a break. He hasn’t had an extended break from work for a few years so I spent the month hacking out and doing what schooling I could in the field! He didn’t seem to forget much as we still managed 10 twos into 16 ones in the middle of a field, so I can’t really complain. He’s definitely come back from his holiday much stronger and fresher, and I recently spent a few days up at Carl’s training and helping out again. Carl said Laddie has put a lot of weight on and looked really good, so I’ve decided to stop practising all together!! We ran through all the Grand Prix stuff again, and he said it all looked much more confirmed and test ready which is very exciting! I just need laddie to stop doing handstands every time I ask for piaffe! He also said that with a little more strength and suppleness Laddie would score 9’s for his trot half-passes, which bodes well as they are a double mark! He is now back in full work and firing on all cylinders; the plan is to confirm and polish the Grand Prix between now and January next year, and hopefully make our Grand Prix debut in style…fingers crossed!
