David Doel went to Somerford International Horse Trials for the final qualifying round for the Under 21 Great Britain Team. He has been Selected for the six strong team to represent Great Britain at the European Championships to be held at Jardy in France from 13th to 15th September.
David was riding Richosea owned by Miss Gillian Jonas.
Heavy rain on the Thursday night made the going on the cross country soft in places, but both David and Danni Dunn finished within the time, leaving Danni leading on her dressage score of 47.5, and David second on his dressage score of 48.3.
The show jumping was a tense affair, and although the team selectors put up a number of jumps to the maximum height the standard was very high, with a number of good clear rounds. David went clear, but had a heart stopping moment when the last fence was severely tapped but stayed up. Danni followed with a good clear round, but being careful she incurred one time penalty which put David ahead to win the section by just .2 of a mark. Both David and Danni were selected on Sunday to represent their country.
This weekend David travels to Haras Du Pin International Horse Trials France with three horses, Koyuna Sun Magic owned by Mrs Jane James and entered in the 3* event, and two younger horses Jiggle Jones owned by the Near Misses, and Chap owned by Miss Gillian Jonas which are entered in the 1* competition.
Following David’s trip to Haras he follows it up with a Trip to Keyso with some intermediate horses on Monday 2nd of September. Then, straight into team training from 4th September and then travelling to Jardy on the 8th.
Straight after the Europeans David and Koyuna Sun Magic travel down to Montelebretti in Italy to contest the CIC3* Nations Cup on the weekend of the 21/22nd September.
