David Doel and his team at Reybridge Eventing have had a busy couple of months, competing regularly at several high profile events, including both the Blenheim and Burghley International Horse Trials. We catch up with him in his latest blog update below:
Following his successes at Barbury Horse Trials, David’s next event was competing in the Advanced section at Aston le Walls, where he rode Chap to finish in 8th place in the U25 section , with Alice (Eisfee) in 20th in the 8/9YO section.
The end of July then saw him in Ireland, at Camphire CIC1* for Cracker Jack II (Jack) and Rainstown Star (Duncan) as well as the CIC*YH for Dunge’s Don Perignon (Don) and Ferro Point, and CIC2* for Mocklers Hill Buster (Magic Mike). It was a rollercoaster of an event with positions changing almost by the minute! The horses all performed well and Cracker Jack II finished third in his section so a good day was had all round!
They then headed to Blenheim Palace for another exciting three days of competition, with Eisfee (Alice) scoring a 48 in the 8/9YO CIC3*, and Chap a 51 in the CCI3*. David was ‘super chuffed’ with Chap who gave him a great ride XC clear with 24 time faults – in almost torrential rain, to collect 25 points for his first CCI3*. It’s a qualifying score and although SJ was disappointing, it didn’t change the end placing by very much.
Eisfee proved herself around a tough CIC3* track, with only a small blip XC but a very exciting future ahead!
As the end of the season is nearing, David and his horses will each take a holiday and then compete in various show jumping, dressage and hunting events to keep the horses fit over the winter. We wish him a successful end to the season and will keep you up to date with his progress over the coming months!
