Twenty year old David Doel from Reybridge finished his first International CIC 3* in second place riding Koyuna Sun Magic owned by Mrs Jane James and Reybridge Eventing. Having been selected for the British Eventing Nations Cup Team he should have travelled to Poland, however last minute rider and horse withdrawals from other team members meant that David and the Reybridge Eventing team had to switch travel arrangements to Tattersalls International Horse Trials in Ireland.
David went into the show jumping phase in 2nd place on a score of 52.3 just three marks behind Australian rider Bill Levett riding Silk Stone. The last fence in the show jumping saw a pole roll and 4 points added to the dressage score.
The field of riders included, top irish riders Austin O’Connor, Mark Kyle, Geoff Curran, Michael Ryan and Joseph Murphy. Other international riders included Kathryn Robinson from Canada, and Jonelle Richards from New Zealand.
Mark Kyle from Ireland who was lying in 3rd place after the dressage also picked up 4 penalties in the show jumping giving him a score of 56.9. At the start of the cross country phase David was lying in 4th place on a score of 56.3. A cross country round which was in the time and clear of penalties moved him to second place as Coral Keen and Sarah Bullimore from Great Britain both picked up time penalties.
David’s next International event will be Barbury Horse Trials from the 4th – 7th July, being his local event he hopes to have some of his younger horses out on the event as well as his international rides.
