Craig Dillon – February Update

It has been a bit of a slow start for me, I’ve been coming back from my injury and then with all the snow, I haven’t had chance to build up many consistent outings.

However, I’ve qualified for the Blue Chip Power finals at Hartpury on one of our rising 6 year olds, Argentiair UK Z! (aka Bogs). Unfortunately our other 6yo mare just had one down in the jump-off which was a bit unlucky. We did the qualifying class at Vale View on Saturday. We put in a steady and clean clear in the first round and ended up getting drawn 2nd to go in the jump off. I watched the first rider in (the eventual winner) and he left nothing spare, with a small coloured stallion, he was very fast and very tight. Argentiair is over 17hh and I knew we wouldn’t be able to compete with that round…

I went as fast and tight as I knew she could without getting a pole or winding her up (I don’t really want to chase her too hard yet as she is still only 6 and quite a late foal), and coming out of the ring I was satisfied with the round, but didn’t really expect to qualify based on the first rider. But it turns out Argentiair was quite speedy and we came home 5th in the middle of a very tight group of times!
