Blue Chip sponsored rider, Tina Cook has received her third Olympic call up to attend the 2016 Rio Games as travelling reserve, following the unfortunate withdrawal of Allercombe Ellie for Izzy Taylor. Pippa Funnell, the original travelling reserve will now compete in Izzy’s place on Billy the Biz, and Tina will bring Elisabeth Murdoch’s Billy the Red as reserve.
In a recent interview, Tina said she has ‘produced him with this goal and he is an incredibly talented young horse who is definitely an Olympic prospect, with a super temperament’. She also thinks that even though this will be his first time going on a plane, he will travel well and thrive on the whole experience.
In the run up to Rio, Tina has achieved some excellent results throughout the season with Billy the Red, including second place in the CIC*** at Bramham International Horse Trials, as well as 7th at the same level at Chatsworth in May, proving he is in an excellent position for a positive result if Tina does end up riding at the Games should a last minute issue arise in the squad. In her previous Olympic team appearances, Tina was both a Team and Individual Olympic Bronze medallist at Beijing 2008 and a Team Silver medallist at London 2012.
As it stands, the full British eventing squad for Rio now consists of:
- William Fox-Pitt on Chilli Morning
- Kitty King on Ceylor LAN
- Gemma Tattersall on Quicklook V
- Pippa Funnell on Billy The Biz
- Travelling reserve: Tina Cook on Billy The Red
