Cameron Rogan Wins Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round in Scotland

Cameron Rogan tasted victory in Sunday’s Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Second Round at the Scottish Home Pony hosted by Morris Equestrian Centre in Fenwick, Ayrshire.

With this being the last second round, the class attracted forty-seven combinations with each rider aiming to deliver a treble clear to be in with the chance of grabbing one of the two direct qualifying places on offer for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show.

From the initial starting field, ten combinations made it through to the final jump off and five treble clears were delivered in total. With just the two tickets on offer, all eyes were focused on the clock to see who had gone quickest.

Building on their performance from the day before in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter was the combination of 16 year-old Cameron Rogan from Kirkmuirhill, Lanarkshire and Landlord III, a 9 year-old dark bay owned by Margaret Ballantyne. Drawn halfway through the jump off, this combination produced their treble clear in a time of 33.53 seconds to give themselves around a 2 second advantage.

Alex Mchattie, aged 16 from Carlisle, Cumbria took second with her mother Sara’s 14 year-old black mare Expressive Hopscotch. This combination produced their third and final foot perfect round in 35.62 seconds to take that second coveted qualification spot.

With the top two taking the direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show, the riders and ponies that finished in third to fifth missed out this time around. They did however take home the chance to compete in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Masters at August’s British Showjumping National Championships, which offers a last qualification attempt.
