Following on from the huge success of the competition that Horse and Rider magazine ran to find two sponsored riders to join the elite team at Blue Chip in 2014, another competition was launched in 2015 and two more exceptional riders have been chosen from a shortlist of 6 riders.
From an incredible 328 entrants to the competition six lucky finalists from different disciplines were chosen, then voting opened for the public to choose their favourite rider.
Over 2,000 votes were cast and the two finalists with the most votes were Louise Doherty and Alexandra Johnson. Louise is from Edinburgh and has two horses, including ‘Corky’ who is a 15.1hh Lusitano X which she competes. She only started eventing in her 30’s, and her aims for 2016 are to move up the grades with Corky. When Louise was told that she was one of the winners she said: “I am absolutely over the moon to have been selected as one of the winners of the Blue Chip Sponsorship competition out of so many applicants. I have also been touched by the support I have received throughout the competition from many of the equestrian clubs and venues I am affiliated with. I can’t wait to start working with Blue Chip and Corky and Lucas are even more excited about starting to sample their wonderful products. “
The second winner is Alexandra Johnson who again has two horses which she competes in Riding Club competitions and British Eventing. Her highlight is winning the National British Riding Club style and jumping competition in 2014. She aims to compete in BE80 and BE90 events this year, along with Riding Club events. On winning the competition Alexandra said “This news has literally made my year! After such a horrendous 2015 season with Romeo having his operation and a string of bad luck, this is just what I needed to get us back on track. I’m so thankful to Blue Chip and Horse and Rider Magazine for hosting this amazing competition, it’s not often that an amateur rider such as myself manages to secure sponsorship, let alone from such a well-known prestigious company. I can’t wait for the 2016 season; we already have lots of events planned!”
