Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Final at HOYS 2011

Emily Ward triumphed in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Final at HOYS this year with her pony King Mac.

Blue Chip Feed Owner Clare Blaskey caught up with Emily and her father Nick Ward to talk about their fantastic win, how King Mac was bread and Emily’s plans to continue riding.

Emily is only 12 and has had a great year. She won the Royal International Horse Show, in the Winter 138cm class, riding Emoe Jessie and competed in the Pony European Championship taking home bronze. She thinks her HOYS 2011 win,  in the Blue Chip Pony Newcomers, is her best achievement so far.

Emily took the win in this years Blue Chip Pony Newcomers Final with a fantastic score of 35.47. She rode her farther’s pony King Mac. King Mac was conceived by a three year old stallion and his mum is currently 9 years old – and still jumping today. Their blood line is very good but not as good as Emily’s father, Nick, had hoped for.

As well as breeding and supporting Emily at events, Nick Ward also trains Emily. He is one of three people which include Nick’s wife, Kelly, and Mike Whittaker.

Emily has been jumping since she was 6 and first competed at HOYS when she was 7. Nick thinks the experience of coming to HOYS for 5 years is valuable in terms of gaining confidence and getting rid of nerves in the ring.

When asked if she plans to carry on riding Emily was happy to say yes. She thinks King Mac gave a fantastic performance at HOYS but believes he has a lot more to show. This year King Mac has been doing JCs, just so he can qualify for next years JCs.
