The Blue Chip & IDHS £2000 Challenge took place on Saturday the 12th September at the IDHS Breed Show, Lincolnshire Show Ground. The morning saw groups of competitors hoping to qualify for the final in the afternoon, for the chance to win a share of £2000 prize money.
“Caherduff Navigator was bought as 5-year-old from County Mayo. He was bred by a guy called Tim Clesham who owns Ashford Equestrian. They bred him with the intention to do dressage with him. However, on my dad’s 40th birthday we spotted him, I had a sit on him and the following week he began his travel across the sea to our yard. We have now had him nearly 7 years.
What has he done? Navigator has done a little bit of everything; starting with pony club, eventing, blood hounding and show jumping before specialising in showing in the Irish Draught, working hunter and middle weight hunter classes. Anne and Alwyn have instructed me for 4 years and last year Anne (Varley) started riding Navigator in the Irish Draught and Middle Weight Hunter classes. He is a great all rounded horse.
Previous results of this year are:
1st at BSPS Newark showground in the MW hunter
Anne qualified for:
Royal International Horse Show at Newark and Notts county
1st in the Irish Draught at Hambleton
NCPA champion Irish Draught
2nd North of England Royal International MW
Festival of hunting 2nd in HOYS MW hunter and reserve champion
2nd at Bakewell in HOYS MW hunter
From being 13 me and my dad used to stand and watch the professionals and riders in the final of the Blue Chip challenge, all dressed in evening dress, hoping one day our horse would be in there. It means a lot to us and to the yard; something we all work really hard for, and we finally won! With great achievements from both horses in the final as winner (Caherduff Navigator ) and best amateur (Shining Sea).”
