I qualified Hilton by winning our regional qualifier for the British Riding Clubs Combined Competition National Championships, where we travelled up to Aston Le Walls, finishing on a creditable 12th place! Luckily I had even more luck in the competition, because another horse I’ve been lent to ride whilst the owner is caring for her newly born baby, won! This means I have won a years training bursary, from NAF for the value of £1000! It’s all very exciting and I have organised to have a cross country lesson with Emily Baldwin with Hilton, which will feature as a training article in Rider Magazine in the future!
After coming 7th at Nurstead Court BE100 we decided to up the ante and enter a Novice. Tweseldown was first on the list, and soon enough the day came around! A sound performance left us in 19th place, with plenty room for improvement but a lot of confidence! Hilton is an absolute cross country machine, and took the more challenging course in his stride. I feel so much more happy running him harder and faster than before, knowing his joint are in the good hands of the Blue Chip Joint RLF.
I also took Hilton to Borde Hill BE event, to take part in the Novice. This was also a qualifier for the BRC National 3-Day Eventing Championships in August! Luckily our team did a good completion so we have qualified! Hilton put in a great performance, and went the direct route at a combination consisting of a hedge to a corner (Pictured) which very few riders took! We finished 15th. We had to participate in the Open Novice section because of the RC qualifier, however if he had been in a normal N section he would have come about 10th! I am so chuffed considering it’s only our second Novice. We improved our dressage by 3 penalties, to 36.5 and reduced our time faults to just 5.6 from Twesledown, the improvements are becoming visible!
Pony Club Area Horse Trials are only around the corner, and I’m frantically trying to get Hilton as fit as possible after he had a week of during the height of my exams. Brightling PC Open is our next stop on the 19th July, before Area on the 2nd of August. There will be an update soon to follow. Hopefully we can qualify for the Pony Club Championships, meaning August will be a very exciting month, including both the PC and BRC National Eventing Championships.
I would like to thank Blue Chip once more, this has given me such a boost for this season, and Hilton is feeling and looking in such good form, honestly the best he’s ever been!
