“We have been busy preparing for the Scope Championships and subsequently for the Amateur 2nd rounds, which begin straight after the Festival. Unfortunately, there has been a lack of shows around our area but we did manage to take Ursela out to Willow Banks Equestrian last weekend. We decided to tackle the ‘5 Fence Challenge’ where a course of 5 fences were continuously raised for 5 rounds.
I was very pleased with Ursela, who is quite a hot horse, and I’m happy that after changing her feed regime to Blue Chip Pro it has enabled her to maintain the stamina to jump so many rounds but not allow her to get too hot so that she didn’t concentrate. She jumped into the final round clearing fences standing at 1m35, including Willow Banks’ infamous lego wall.
We finished 4th and I’m excited for shows to come with Ursela as she feels that she is ready to move towards that height again, which is what we used to jump prior to her having her foal. Both of the horses have been selected to take part in an equine sports massage case study and will begin their three month treatment on Tuesday, ahead of Scope – hopefully they both will be feeling fresh and ready for the competition.
Our little mascot ‘Matilda’, the miniature Shetland pony will be accompanying the horses to Scope so be on the lookout for her! Both horses are attending a few training shows in the run up to Scope and making the use of some local indoor arenas to practice.”
