February has been another busy month for me, kicking off with an unwelcome four inches of snow! Despite this Sparsholt College did not cancel our Indoor Driving event on the 5th, so we set off on the scary, icy roads. A good number of hardy competitors had turned up and we were thrilled to have the best dressage score in our class, as well as the joint best score of the whole event and the best paces score out of everyone. This was also a personal best for Jasper as well as me, with the judge commenting on how much he had improved from two weeks ago.
Obviously by this point things were going a bit too well and Jasper took a dislike to the slushy noise the wheels of the carriage made on the half frozen outdoor arena, and was an idiot in the cones!
Miraculously we only had one ball down but with 10 time penalties we dropped to third place. Jasper flew round the obstacles to hold onto our third place and ensure we were also Best Junior. We are also the highest place Junior driver in the Wessex Indoor points league so a qualification for the Indoor Finals held at Keysoe at the end of March looks hopeful. Huge thanks to the organisers and stewards who gave up their time to ensure the event still ran, it was a great day out despite the weather!
The following Monday marked the start of half term for me, and after a few frustrating days off due to the snow we were back to driving and riding everyday working mostly on dressage training. On Tuesday and Wednesday I stayed with my best friend, and had great fun riding their horses and going to see War Horse. All too soon it was back to school, and I had my interview for Nottingham Vet School. I had a great day and really enjoyed it and now have a nervous wait for the verdict. The trip up to Nottingham was also my first chance to drive on the motorway after passing my test, which I am glad to say, went without a hitch.
We were hoping to be heading up to the Thames Valley Area for their last event of their Indoor season on the 25th but due to a virus at the equestrian centre it was cancelled, which is a shame.
For the next month Jasper is entering Boot Camp in preparation for the Indoor Finals (hopefully!) and for BYD’s Easter Training Camp at The Unicorn Trust. He will be doing lots of schooling and will be having a makeover so he looks nice and smart.
Huge thanks for your continued support.
