Jane Stephenson and Blue Chip Forever, who train under the expert guidance of Ian Woodhead, have proved that hard work does pay off and won their Advanced Medium Regional Final which was held at Bishop Burton College on Monday 13th February, well ahead of a highly competitive field. The pair stole the show and won by over 3%, gaining excellent comments from the judges and together they reached a further milestone in Jools’s training and dressage career.
Originally competed and ridden by Blue Chip founder, Clare Blaskey, Blue Chip Forever, aka Jools showed a high level of potential with Clare’s rider and right hand woman, Jane Stephenson, who then took over the reins and the pair have formed a terrific partnership in since they began training together.
Clare is incredibly proud of what Jane and Jools have achieved in such a short period of time and she talks fondly of how she came across this special, talented horse who is by Olympic Champion Stallion, Glocks Johnson. ‘I have owned Jools since he was three years old after purchasing him in Holland and where he was the last horse I viewed on a four day search. Obviously, the best was saved until last and I decided to purchase him with the purpose of becoming a show horse. His career took off, seeing him become National Sport Horse Champion twice, as well as being crowned as the Best Trained Show Horse whilst I was competing him. I recognised that he had a talent for dressage and he has proved me right so far, winning several classes and titles at the Winter Championships as he has progressed through his dressage career.’
It is this natural ability for dressage that saw Jane and Jools achieve a perfect ‘10’ from judge Andrea Small for their halt in their Advanced Medium Freestyle test at the Regional Finals, which is a great achievement as a score of ten is rarely awarded at this level of competition. Gaining this score has proved that the hard work and training Jane and her trainer Ian have put in has come to fruition and Ian speaks very highly of the partnership and their future; ‘I so enjoy training this pair as they always bring a smile to my face. Jools loves his work, the more difficult it gets, the better he goes – he and Jane have the potential to go much further together’
Armed with these positive comments, Jane and Jools are working towards reaching new highs at the Winter Championships and throughout the season ahead where they have a packed competition schedule which is well and truly under way. Jane said ‘I’m so pleased to have won the regionals – we have been working really hard and Jools deserved the win. I absolutely adore him. He is such a clever horse and such a nice person – he tries so hard for me’
