So 2014 has been a jam packed year, lots of changes here at bazaars stud and a feeling that 2015 has more to come.
So the first event of the British Eventing season for us was Stafford horse trials, the beautiful English weather was at its best – rain, rain and more rain! As we don’t have arena at home the horses were more than used to trotting circles in mud, Stafford horse trials organisers did an amazing job of running the event in the appalling weather conditions, however despite the weather the horses behaved impeccably and even gained some great placing’s – 1st 1st 2nd 3rd and a 6th .
Next we headed off to Weston Park with Bazaars Fizgig to contest in the BE Novice, we had not done many Novices together and it was only my second event. The course was big and bold as it always is; Bazaars Fizgig cruised round to gain a 5th place (special pony).
In the spring I competed at Badminton Horse Trials on Jemarie Sullivan’s Katelina. Badminton was a great experience especially as it was my first stay away show. I had managed to qualify in 2012 and 2013 but had not managed to compete due to horses gaining too many points and lameness. Katelina at this point in her care started to realise that she loved to event, resulting in a slightly hot test but still gaining a respectable mark of 30.5, the next day she jumped a lovely double-clear to finish 14th out of a field of 85+ finalists.
Also at Badminton Horse trials I was invited to the rider reception part where I received a trophy for highest placed Foundation Points Grassroots rider by Mary King herself.
Another memorable event was Catton horse trials which took place on my birthday. We took 4 horses along, two for the BE100 and two for the BE Novice. Catton is always a tough up to height course, but it rode extremely well and all horse finished in the prize money which was a bonus.
Just when you think that everything is going to plan and you are on target to achieve your 2014 goals. Baby horse all up graded, first international horse trials entered. BANG
Frickley park horse trials with Bazaars High Town BE Novice, it was her first Novice event and unfortunately it did not go to plan. Whilst contesting the cross country Happy had a fall after the trekehner when she got to her feet her stud managed to go through my leg. As I was hospitalised I was medically suspended by BE meaning I missed Somerford Park International.
Gatcombe Park was my first Intermediate I competed in and we came home safe and sound, which was an amazing feeling, however not an amazing placing as we came nearly last but I had still achieved my goal of 2014.
Our next BE intermediate went much better at Kelsall Hill and I can’t wait to have a crack at some more in 2015.
2014 has been the first time we have ever fed a balancer, Blue Chip Original mainly, and I can’t recommend it enough. At first I was probably sceptical as it was expensive, however the difference in performance, recovery rates and overall condition is visible and the horses are all getting the most out of their feed that they are receiving.
Overall we have had a fab season apart from the odd mishap. I have had the privilege of riding some amazing horses – some of which have now left for a new venture with other rider’s / owner’s and it’s just as rewarding to see them going well in there new homes. Wishing you all a successful and happy 2015.
